It was a star-studded evening as some of the biggest names in world cricket came together for Yuvraj Singh’s YouWeCan Foundation gala dinner, aimed at raising funds for cancer awareness and support.
The entire Indian cricket team, along with head coach Gautam Gambhir and support staff, attended the event, which also featured legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Chris Gayle, Kevin Pietersen, Brian Lara, and Ashish Nehra. Team India spent over an hour at the gala, joining fun activities before departing.
One of the highlights of the night came when a giant screen showed Virat Kohli casually chatting and sharing a meal with Kevin Pietersen, drawing cheers from the crowd. Later, during a candid session hosted by Gaurav Kapoor, the stage saw a lively chat with Ravi Shastri, Yuvraj Singh, Pietersen, Chris Gayle, and Darren Gough. Initially hesitant, Kohli eventually joined the panel after much insistence.
In a lighthearted moment, Kohli gave a rare comment on retirement, joking: “I just coloured my beard two days ago. You know it’s time when you are colouring your beard every four days.” Sitting alongside former coach Ravi Shastri, the duo praised each other for their contributions during their successful stint with Team India.
Kohli also reflected on his deep bond with Yuvraj Singh, recalling their first meeting, time together in the dressing room, and Yuvraj’s inspiring battle with cancer. “When I started playing for India, Yuvi pa, Bhajju pa, and Zaheer bhai took me under their wings. Watching Yuvi in the 2011 World Cup was special, and his comeback after cancer is something I’ll always cherish,” Kohli shared.
The evening was not just about nostalgia but also about celebrating the spirit of cricket and supporting a noble cause through the YouWeCan Foundation.
