India’s squash prodigy Anahat Singh finished as the runner-up at the $27,500 NSW Squash Bega Open 2024 in Australia after retiring in the final due to an ankle injury.
Top seed Anahat, 17, started strong by winning the first game 11-9 against Egypt’s second seed Habiba Hani, but the 20-year-old Egyptian fought back to dominate the match. Habiba led 9-11, 11-5, 11-8, 10-4 when Anahat was forced to withdraw.
Despite her early lead, Anahat struggled to keep up with Habiba’s speed and athleticism in the later stages. With this victory, Habiba clinched her maiden PSA World Series title.
Speaking after the match, Anahat said:
“It was quite tough. I tried to push through but could not. I have one more week to recover before the National Championship in Delhi. I am looking forward to it.”
Anahat, who already has 12 PSA titles to her name, will now aim to defend her crown at the Indian Nationals starting August 23 in Delhi.
